Serengeti hotel Zanzibar is a beautiful boutique hotel right on the beach in Jambiani. It’s small and intimate, perfect for anyone looking to relax and enjoy the ocean without the noise of a big resort. The calm atmosphere here makes it easy to forget your busy schedule and just enjoy simple moments like the sound of waves and a freshly made cup of hibiscus tea.
The hotel is brand new, opened in late 2024, so when we stayed in the beginning of 2025 season, we were only the second round of guests. It was clear that everything was brand new, spotless, and thoughtfully put together.
The décor at the hotel is inspired by traditional African design, with warm colors and handcrafted details. Unique animal statues are placed throughout the garden and halls, making the hotel feel really interesting and perfect for taking photos. They create a special atmosphere that I really enjoyed.
If you love starting your day with a swim in the sea or a dip in a private pool, this place is made for you. It’s comfortable and easygoing, a great choice if you want to slow down and just be.

The check-in process at Serengeti hotel in Zanzibar was simple and smooth from the moment we arrived. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and offered a glass of fresh hibiscus tea, which felt amazing after the long taxi drive from the Zanzibar airport. The staff were kind, relaxed, and made us feel welcome right away without any rush or stress.
We didn’t have to wait long at all. They quickly confirmed our booking, gave us the room key, and explained everything we needed to know, like breakfast times, WiFi password, and how to use the safe. It didn’t feel like a formal hotel check-in but more like being welcomed into someone’s home.
One of the staff walked us to our room and showed us around, which we really appreciated. They also asked if we needed help with our bags. Everything was explained clearly and casually, and they were happy to answer any questions.
The whole process took less than ten minutes, and we were already in our room unpacking and getting ready for a swim. It was one of the easiest and friendliest check-in experiences I’ve had in a long time.

Our room at Serengeti hotel Zanzibar was even better than we expected. It had a warm, authentic feel that made us feel comfortable right away. The mix of wooden furniture, beautiful African details, and ocean views made it really special. Everything was clean, spacious, and thoughtfully arranged.
The room had a unique and rustic style. We later learned that all of the wooden furniture was made from old dhow boats, which are traditional African sailing boats. The wood had so much texture and history, and it made the room feel different from any hotel we’ve stayed at before.
On the bed, there was a beautiful display of two swans made from towels, carefully shaped and positioned side by side. They were decorated with bright, fresh bougainvillea flowers that made the whole arrangement feel extra special. It was clear that their took their time to make it just right.
It was such a thoughtful and sweet touch that instantly made me smile and feel welcomed. There were also many authentic African paintings on the walls. Each one stood out in its own way and gave the room a strong local feel.
Our room was on the top floor of Serengeti hotel Zanzibar, and there are only two rooms up there, which made it feel quiet and private the whole time. We didn’t hear a sound from other guests, and it honestly felt like we had the entire floor to ourselves. That extra space and sense of privacy made a huge difference, especially when we wanted to just relax without any noise or distractions.
One of the things I loved most was the rooftop terrace. It was connected to our room and felt like our own little hideaway above the hotel. The view from up there was incredible. We could see the pool just below, surrounded by tall palm trees that moved softly with the wind, and behind them, the ocean going all the way to the horizon. You could even constantly hear the waves, especially at night.
I spent a lot of time up on the terrace, just sitting in the shade and enjoying the fresh air. It was the perfect place for a slow morning with a cup of coffee or a peaceful moment in the evening with a bottle of Kilimanjaro beer to cool down.

The weather in Africa can be tough with high humidity and strong sun, but Serengeti hotel Zanzibar is luckily located in a spot with a constant breeze that felt amazing, unlike many other places in Zanzibar.

There are plenty of comfortable loungers around where you can lie back, soak up some sun, or just read a book while listening to the ocean waves.
Right next to the pool, there’s a bar where the staff are always friendly and happy to bring you a cold drink or a fresh cocktail without you having to leave your spot.

The food at Serengeti Hotel Zanzibar is delicious and really made our days better. One thing I loved was that breakfast isn’t a buffet. Instead, you pick what you want from a menu, so every dish was fresh and carefully prepared just for you. This way, you get exactly what you want without any any waste.
One thing that quickly became my favorite was Africafa. It’s a traditional drink that guests can make themselves in the morning. I looked forward to making it every day. It’s a nice little morning ritual that felt special.
For breakfast, the avocado toast was incredible. It was fresh and creamy and just the right amount to start the day without feeling too heavy. Honestly, it was one of the best avocado toasts I’ve had.
The dinner menu offers plenty of seafood options, and the grilled octopus was my favorite. It was cooked perfectly and really enjoyable. Also, there was also a delicious soup made with African beef that had a very specific and memorable taste I really loved.
Overall, the food and service here was made with care and matched the welcoming atmosphere of the hotel.

The massage therapists are skilled and use traditional techniques that really help you relax. The setting is peaceful, with soft music and calming scents that make the experience even better. After a massage like that, you’ll feel refreshed and ready to enjoy the rest of your day or evening.

The staff at Serengeti Hotel Zanzibar truly made our stay feel special. From the moment we arrived, everyone was warm and welcoming, always ready with a smile or a kind word. What really stood out was how personal and genuine the service felt, making the whole experience much more than just a typical hotel stay.
Paula, a lovely girl from the staff made my mornings even better by doing my hair every day. She took her time, always gentle and kind, and chatting with her quickly became one of my favorite parts of the day. On my last morning, she gave me a big hug before we left like she knew me for years, and that moment really stuck with me.
It’s moments like these that show how much the staff care about their guests. They don’t just do their jobs; they create a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel at home.
Whether it was helping with small requests or just chatting during breakfast, the team at Serengeti Hotel Zanzibar went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and appreciated. That kind of hospitality really made our stay unforgettable.

Looking back on my time at Serengeti Hotel Zanzibar, I can honestly say it was one of those stays that stays with you even after you leave. From the beautiful ocean views to the handmade details throughout the property, everything about this place felt special and well thought out.
