Whichever route you choose, you’re in for a treat as the journey to this charming town is an adventure by itself.

Short History Of Sarti

After doing a little bit of a research, I found out that the history of Sarti is very interesting. In fact, the people of Sarti are descendants of the people who lived on the island of Avşa in Turkey. Fearing an attack from the Turks, the Greeks sent ships to rescue them and transport them to Athens. However, they didn’t know that they would be leaving their homes in Avşa forever. Upon returning to Avşa, a group of people found that all of their houses and shops had burned to the ground.

Being from a small town, they were not happy in a big city such as Athens, so six of them decided to search for a new place in Greece that resembled their beloved Avşa. After a few months, they found Sarti, which was unpopulated at the time. Sarti reminded them of their village, so they decided to call it home.

They returned to Athens and took all the people who wanted to start a new life with them. At first, it was very hard for them. They didn’t have food or houses, and the locals from Sykia didn’t want to help the newcomers. They spent their first two years at the Metohi of Xeropotamou Monastery, which accepted them and helped them while they built the small houses that can still be seen in an old part of Sarti today. Since Sarti is a seaside village, the people living there were exclusively engaged in fishing until Sarti became a tourist destination in the 70s.

Whether you’re a beer enthusiast or just looking for a good time, Emmanuel’s Beer House Tavern has got you covered. I was attracted by a large selection of beers (over 50 brands!), but they also serve up delicious local food and steaks. This was hands down the place I visited most while I stayed in Sarti. As a result, the marine life here is much more interesting compared to sandy beaches. Whether you’re a seasoned snorkeler or trying it for the first time, Goa Beach offers an unforgettable experience for all ages. So, grab your snorkel and get ready to uncover the world beneath the waves at Goa Beach, just a short distance from Sarti! But be careful not to step on a sea urchin, as there are a lot of them! I made a collage of all the interesting fish species I was able to see, and it was a great experience for me. The most colorful one was the Ornate Wrasse, which I followed around for about half an hour. That was a fun day!

I don’t know about you, but I haven’t had many experiences waking up that early, so watching sunrises in Sarti was really something special for me. I was staying just a few steps away from the beach, so I grabbed my coffee and headed over to find a cozy spot to watch the sun rise. It was an amazing moment, filling me with peace as I sat there, mesmerized by the pastel colors unfolding before me. As the sky and sea changed colors and the sun peeked over the horizon, I couldn’t help but feel amazed by nature. It really was a magical experience for me.
