Where Is Munich Law Library aka Juristische Bibliothek Located?
The Munich Law Library is hidden on the third floor of the Neues Rathaus, also known as the New Town Hall. This impressive building is located at Prielmayerstraße 7, at Marienplatz, the city’s central square, and it is hard to miss with its Gothic architecture and amazing details. The facade of this building is full of statues and ornate carvings that look absolutely beautiful.
One of the highlights of the New Town Hall is the famous Glockenspiel. This large clock chimes and reenacts historical Bavarian events with life-sized figures. It’s a delightful show that attracts crowds every day at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. (and also at 5 p.m. in the summer). It’s a great spot to take a break and enjoy the lively atmosphere of Marienplatz.
Once you step inside, you’ll be transported back in time (or to a Harry Potter movie set, as it definitely looks like something out of the Harry Potter movies). The grand staircases and richly decorated ceilings and walls are full of history and charm. The New Town Hall is also perfect for snapping some Instagram-worthy photos!
How To Visit Magical Munich Law Library (Juristische Bibliothek)
What I learned after doing my research is that the Munich Law Library is actually not open to the public. It is a working law library for students and lawyers. So, make sure to book the tour in advance to not miss the opportunity to visit this hidden gem, as the tours are only available a few times per week in the specific hours. In my opinion the tour is very cheap (only $12 per person), and I think it is well worth it, as it is impossible to enter in any different way, and it will be a shame to be in Munich, without experiencing the amazing Munich Law Library or Juristische Bibliothek, as they call it. You can book the tour here.
I was actually really nervous when booking the tour if it will be enough time for me to actually make good quality photos for my blog and social media, as the tour group had around 20-30 people who I thought were feeling the same as me, and wanted to take many photos. However, it was quite the opposite. Only one girl and one couple were actually taking photos on the stairs, and the other people were acting like “normal” tourists and were just looking around. I guess that is the difference between content creators and regular tourists, right?
Walking into this library felt amazing. When I first saw it, I was blown away by its beauty. With its detailed ironwork and spiral staircase, it has a magical atmosphere that took my breath away. The high ceilings and large windows allow natural light to flood in, highlighting the library’s stunning interior. The lamps, even though they are electric, add a warm, old-time atmosphere that matches the interior of this library.
Built in 1907, the Munich Law Library has a rich history. It was designed by the architect Georg von Hauberrisser in the Art Nouveau style, which was popular at the time. This style is evident in the library’s elegant curves and detailed decorations inspired by nature. It’s a place where old-world charm meets a sense of timeless beauty.
Visiting the Munich Law Library is like finding a secret magical corner in the big city. It’s not just a place for studying law; it’s a place to be inspired by the beauty of the past. Whether you’re a history lover, or simply looking for a quiet, beautiful spot to visit, Munich Law Library offers a unique and amazing experience.
This is definitely an experience you won’t forget. The magical atmosphere and stunning interior make the Munich Law Library one of the most beautiful libraries in Europe. Don’t forget to take lots of photos and soak in the ambiance.
As you wander through the library, take a moment to appreciate the details all around you. The grand staircase, the ornate ceilings, and the peaceful reading room all tell a story. It’s like stepping into a different era. Every corner has something special to offer, so take your time and enjoy the journey.

Was Visiting Munich Law Library Worth It?
Absolutely, I’d say the tour is definitely worth it. For such a cheap price, it would be a shame to miss out. Munich is known for being an expensive city, so I was pleasantly surprised by the affordable tour cost.
The tour lasts about half an hour, which is enough time to see the library and hear a bit about the New Town Hall as well. It’s a short but sweet experience that packs in a lot of fascinating history and stunning interiors.
So, make sure to book your tour in advance to secure your spot. It’s a great opportunity to explore one of Munich’s hidden gems without breaking the bank. Don’t miss out on this unique experience!
